Transformation

A HISTORY HALF A CENTURY LONG. In Amelia, in Umbria, in a suggestive hilly area dominated by the old manor house and the complex of cellars, the Zanchi family has been producing authentic wines with a strong territorial identity since 1971. The 35 hectares of land of the company have always been cultivated with vineyards and olive groves according to the principles of organic farming, with low environmental impact practices, respecting nature and its biodiversity. Low yields per hectare, hand-picked and non-interventionist vinification are the basis of sustainable production ethics conducted entirely on the farm, from the vine to the bottle.

KEEPERS OF BIODIVERSITY. Three generations have dedicated themselves to the selection of the best autochthonous vines and typical varieties of Umbria, planting their own vineyards with ancient clones of local vines, preserving the old vines and the centuries-old Olivo Rajo trees. In 2008, in collaboration with Parco 3A and the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Perugia, an experimental vineyard was planted within the company to safeguard the genetic heritage of vines on the verge of extinction. In addition to the conservation of about 30 species at risk of erosion, the aim of the project is also to identify unique vines that can become identifiers and offer new commercial developments to local companies. In 2019 Tostolello was identified as the most promising and for this reason registered in the regional register of vine varieties.

AUTHENTIC WINES AND WELCOME. Pioneers of winemaking on the hills of Amelia, the Zanchi family has created the most representative labels of the Amelia DOC over the years, translating the characteristics of the local grapes into authentic wines, custodians of traditions but at the same time evolved from continuous research in the vineyard and cellar. A visit to the company is an experience for adults and children to discover the various recovered vines and the characteristics of the ancient clones of Ciliegiolo and Malvasia di Amelia grown in the historic vineyards, as in the past, together with the secular olive trees of Rajo. The wine tastings are held in the suggestive aging cellar in combination with selected gastronomic products to offer a journey through the truest flavors of Amerino.
